Dowry 2023/ Sphere made of plaster, acrylic, and cable
This work was created as part of the double exhibition "For What We Are" with Bahar Batvand at the Düsseldorf City Museum. The exhibition explores female identity, freedom, and cultural expression. The work was the fourth installment in the series Woman. Life. Freedom. Art. The concept of Oksana Pyzh's work "Dowry" is based on the symbolism of red beads, traditionally associated with Ukrainian female culture and identity. They were believed to possess magical protective properties. Therefore, the work was conceived as a kind of amulet, the pieces of which had to be connected. An important part of the concept is the need to assemble an amulet that symbolizes the idea of reconstructing lost identity and memory. This process also reflects efforts to preserve cultural heritage and create new meanings based on traditions.
