ARTIST STATEMENT Oksana Pyzh
My artistic practice operates at the intersection of personal experience, geopolitical events, and socio‑cultural realities. Through installations, digital works, and paintings, I explore themes such as memory, transformation, and the reevaluation of lived experiences. I fragment and reconstruct elements drawn from the environment and history to forge new connections and reflect identity in multifaceted ways.
In my work, I transform the aesthetics of Soviet mosaics into modern "pixel" images. This metamorphosis symbolizes the shift from organic memory to digital interpretation, demonstrating how technologies alter our perception of the past. Lively memories are translated into abstracted, mechanized forms.
By combining symbols, text, and imagery, my art seeks to rethink cultural heritage and shape a contemporary identity that bridges my personal post‑Soviet experience with a European context.
